[WRITING;MISC] Purge Three
Mar. 14th, 2010 09:57 pmSo, time slows down a bit here, or at least as fast as both Rowan and Kento can... I was gonna start the middle of this, but I remembered that I actually haven't thought that far. I know, it's a bit backwards, but the set up is important, right? It's not as squicky as I thought it would be either. Which is good because after the first Purge, things just go downhill from there. Like it's gonna be a record for me, maybe except towards the end. Not sure, but we'll see when we get to that point.
The dialogue is a bit odd, considering what happened to Rowan earlier, Kento as well. The time between the first and this one, is... how can I put this. It's strange. It's the only word I can come up with, and I'm surprised I haven't written it down somewhere, because I still don't know what happens. Just... strange things. The dialogue's also strange as well, but when you consider what happened... and things get lampshaded. Description will probably be added later, but from some reactions, I think I got my point across this time.
But I like how Rowan doesn't point out that Kento can (briefly) see out of his right eye the whole time. At the same time, I don't think he would've noticed anyway.
Rowan rolled off the table and yelped as he landed on the floor, hard. He couldn't see far in the low light, just small dim orbs that floated in and out of his vision. There were panicked voices chattering outside, something about emergency lights.
He glanced around as he struggled to his knees, using the edge as a prop. There was a dark silhouette not too far from him, various lines from it, stirring a little. Rowan tried to speak, but there was no sound, and the sharp pain in his neck reminded him. He wandered over, clumsy on his own feet.
The silhouette opened a milky eye, and stared back at him as he approached. "Didn't think you were...that close," Kento managed with a small smile. Even in the dark, Rowan saw the swathes of bloody dressings and the countless tubes sticking out from his arms and chest, not to mention the straps that held him down.
He couldn't hide his disgust and shook his head. Rowan tried speaking again, this time managing akin to a hiss. I can't talk, he mouthed, pointing to his throat.
"Did I go deaf for a second? What...?"
Rowan continued the gesture, adding another hand motion.
"Oh... it's kind of dark. I got it... I think. Can you please get me out of this?" Kento flinched when Rowan reached over to loosen the strap across his chest. "Easy! I got... shot in the heart. At least I think so..."
Rowan threw alarmed look, mouthing "How are you still alive?"
"I have no fuckin' clue," he answered. "Even that doctor was surprised."
"Too stubborn, huh?"
"Well, now that I know I'm gonna be...having two kids, I just can't, yknow?"
Rowan paused and looked down at him. Kento nodded matter-of-factly and Rowan chuckled, shaking his head.
"I know, right? Unbelievable..." He settled back into the table, suddenly tired. His eye shot open when Rowan shook him by the shoulder.
"Do not fall asleep," he warned, and also reminding himself. His vision whited out twice and he felt his limbs go heavy. Finally, he loosened the main strap and the arm bands as well before stopping. "Can you move?"
Kento shifted, and the buckles fell with a dull thud. "That was easy..." He sat up, and a confused look crossed his scarred face. "Why was I tied down like that? I was dead! There's no need to tie a dead man down..."
"Frankenstein was," Rowan replied. "There was no telling what he was gonna do after he came to life."
"Oh, I'm Frankenstein now?" The question was in half-hearted anger, and Rowan knew it as well, as he just raised an eyebrow. "I don't like being tied up anyway... but I have to indulge Shina. Sometimes!" he added, when Rowan's jaw dropped. "Okay, uncalled for."
Kento removed most of the tubes. "Uh, what about this one?" He glanced at Rowan for confirmation. "The last time I pulled one out..." His head lulled, and inhaled sharply. "I think I went into shock."
"Can you still breathe? With no problem?"
Kento nodded. "I think so. I can fight if I have to. While I'm still high on morphine anyway."
It was the answer he was waiting for, despite the situation and despite the pain.
