[writing] Project Chaos - Epilouge
May. 16th, 2010 03:00 am“Are you absolutely sure, Mr. Oni?” questioned Meeko, shutting the door behind her. “It’s not like them to just release a person, I think, let an employee.”
Michael Kage clasped his scarred hands and rested his chin on them. “I am not sure. They might have figured out what you’re doing, and planning accordingly.” The notion of the HSA even doing such a move bothered him. “Take great caution, Meeko. They are…unpredictable. In any case, I’ll try to investigate this in full depth; you can count on that.”
Meeko nodded in confirmation. “Thanks,” she said. She shuffled through her clipboard and pulled out a simple red folder. “This was in my box,” she said, handing it to Michael with care. He gave the cover a once-over, and saw a small insignia he didn’t recognize on the bottom next to a elaborate capital ‘N’. He opened it, and skimmed the letter inside.
“What the hell?” he exclaimed, making Meeko jump. Again, he looked at the letter, reading every word. This can’t be… His cellphone rang twice before he answered it. The LCD display flashed a unfamiliar number. “Hello?” he answered tersely. “…How did you get this number?”
“Why dear Michael,” the sultry voice said on the receiver, “that’s not a way to greet an old friend. It’s been a long time, and this is what I come to? Shame…”
“Noelle,” he growled. “What do you want?”
“Oh, nothing really,” she said with an airy laugh. “I’m sure you just read that little letter I sent. Don’t be mad, Michael. I’m sure the fall won’t be as bad as you would think. You’ll have to tell your little buddies the news though. Have fun with that.”
Before he knew it, Michael only heard the dial tone.
“Sir?” Meeko asked, worried. “What just happened?”
“We’ve been terminated.”
